God – His Kindness & Severity
When I was in high school I never dated much; mainly because I liked a girl who unfortunately wanted a friendship not a relationship. By the end of my senior year she finally came around, but after 4 years of continuous rejection; my heart was too calloused towards her to start dating. The bible says that the God who is rich in kindness, tolerance, and patience can feel that same way about the people who continuously reject Him.
Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God’s kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off. Romans 11:22
All through God’s word we read about His patience and kindness yet we also read that His patience eventually runs out as it did in the days of Noah before the great flood. We live in a time where we seldom read or hear about the severity (sternness) of God, only His love and mercy. Whether we are talking about a nation, a church that’s going its own way, or an individual; this is a dangerous posture to take since His word is clear that His spiritual blessings are ultimately cut off from those who continue to reject Him.
